West end house fire being investigated as arson

A house fire in the west end of Halifax overnight is thought to have been deliberately set.

Firefighters were called to Chebucto Road, between Mumford Road and Connaught Avenue around 11:30 last night to find a two story house on fire.

Halifax Regional Police say an unknown man pulled up to the house in a white sedan and threw an incendiary device at the house before driving off down Quinn Street.

The Canadian Red Cross says a couple and their two children were able to escape the fire unharmed, and a tenant living in the upper floor of the house was not in the building at the time of the incident.

The organization is providing food, clothing, and shelter for the family.

They house was heavily damaged, and arson investigators are on the scene looking for evidence
