RCMP ask residents to remove guns from seasonal properties after break and enters

The RCMP are asking Nova Scotians to remove valuables firearms from cottages and cabins after responding to a number of break and enters at seasonal properties.

They warn over the past month, guns, generators and power tools have all gone missing.

Mounties say if you need to keep a firearm at the cabin, it must be unloaded and secured.

Stored non-restricted firearms must be rendered inoperable by one of the following means:

-locking device
-removal of the bolt or bolt carrier
-being stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that it is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into

They add ammo also needs to be secured in a container that can’t be broken open.
