HALIFAX – If the lights suddenly went out at your home on Tuesday night, you were not alone, but the cause of the outage may potentially shock you.

Nova Scotia Power had to cut service to approximately 15,000 customers and make emergency repairs after somebody broke into a substation in the Kearney Lake area and made off with copper wire inside.

Spokespoerson Bev Ware tells Global News that the thief was dealing with live electrical equipment and it was a dangerous and reckless thing to do that put both themselves and repair workers in danger.

The value of the stolen copper wire? About $40.
