The Halifax Central Library is expected to be back open Friday morning after it was evacuated Thursday afternoon.

Halifax Regional Police were called to the Spring Garden Road building at 3:41 p.m. to investigate a report of a suspicious package.

Police put up detours and asked the public to avoid the area during their investigation which lasted all night and into the morning.

At 3:17 a.m. HRP tweeted they had cleared the scene and streets had reopened.

Police say anyone who had to leave items in the building during the evacuation can contact the library after 7:00 a.m. to get them back.
