Man injured in single-engine plane crash : fire chief

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – A fire official says a small, single-engine plane crashed in a farmer’s field in rural Nova Scotia, injuring the only person on board.

Doug Dort, chief of New Glasgow Fire and Rescue, says the plane went down at around 8:30 this morning near Frasers Mountain Road.

He says the plane appeared to land on soft earth and then dig in immediately, causing significant damage to the aircraft.

Dort says the man flying the plane sustained some cuts and bruises and was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

Pictou District RCMP say they received a call about a plane that had stalled before landing in the field.

RCMP are investigating with the Transportation Safety Board.
