Clayton Miller investigation results due Thursday

SYDNEY, N.S. – The results of an independent investigation into the 1990 death of Cape Breton teenager Clayton Miller are scheduled to be released Thursday.

Nova Scotia chief medical examiner Dr. Matt Bowes says he and the province’s Serious Incident Response Team plan to hold a news conference in Sydney.

Miller’s 17-year-old body was found in a stream after police raided a bush party.

Doctors came to differing conclusions about the cause of his death and a subsequent inquest and RCMP investigation both cleared the New Waterford police department of any wrongdoing.

Over the years, Miller’s family has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the teen’s death, saying they believe key information was withheld from the public.

The province’s independent police watchdog said in January it had launched an investigation into the accuracy of allegations that a member of the Cape Breton Regional Police Service may have undisclosed information regarding the case.

Miller’s mother Maureen has said she hopes the review will prompt police to reopen their investigation into her son’s death.
