Easter weekend: what’s open, what’s closed

The Easter long weekend is upon us, as some get set for big family dinners and others some well-deserved rest.

Good Friday and Easter Sunday are both federal statutory holidays, so most retail outlets will be closed. All grocery stores and most other places to shop, including all area malls, will be shuttered both Friday and Sunday — although the Halifax Seaport Market will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All NSLC outlets will also be closed, with Propeller and Garrison breweries operating on regular weekend hours.

Halifax Transit will operate on a holiday schedule both days, and there will be no ferry service either day.

All government offices, post offices, museums, and libraries will also be closed.

As for garbage collection, those houses scheduled for pickup on Friday will instead be picked up on Saturday, and can put out double the bag limit to make up for missed days because of recent winter weather.
