Halifax police officer charged with assault

The province’s Serious Incident Reponse Team (SiRT) says it has charged a Halifax police officer with assault.

A report today alleges 45-year-old Cst. Derek Fish assaulted a 34-year-old man on August 22, 2014 at the Dairy Queen on Dutch Village Road in Halifax while arresting him for theft from another store.

The man made a complaint about the officer’s conduct in September of 2014.

And on October 17, 2014, Halifax police referred the matter to SiRT for investigation.

Fish will be summoned to appear at the Halifax provincial court on March 23, 2015.
