Police officer charged with impaired driving

Another Halifax police officer has been charged with impaired driving, after a traffic stop on Highway 101 near New Minas.

RCMP stopped the vehicle driven by an off-duty officer Thursday night, and he’s been charged with impaired driving and having a blood-alcohol level that exceeds the legal limit.

Police say the officer can’t be named yet because the charges haven’t been sworn before the courts, something that’s due to happen Monday in Kentville.

He’s been suspended with pay as per the Nova Scotia Police Act, which police say requires suspended officers to receive pay and benefits for the first 60 days of their suspension.

“After 60 days, the Chief of Police can make a determination as to whether the suspension will be with or without pay thereafter,” HRP Const. Pierre Bourdages wrote in a news release.

Earlier this month, 23-year-old officer Ryan Morris was charged with impaired driving after a crash on Prince Albert Road in Dartmouth.
