English youth charged with luring after RCMP investigation

RCMP say an investigation by the force’s Child Exploitation Unit has led to an arrest in England.

Police in the county of Kent, England arrested a 17-year-old boy residing in the town of Dover last Monday, Oct. 27.

He’s accused of luring and extorting an underage girl from northeastern Nova Scotia.

Corporal Robert MacDougall with the RCMP says international investigations are common.

“Traditionally they’re very frustrating to investigate, in that either we cannot identify the person responsible, or they’re from a country that we do not have a good working relationship with,” MacDougall said.

“We’re fortunate in this case. We do have very good protocol in place with the U.K.”

The boy is under investigation for blackmail, possession of indecent photographs of children and inciting child pornography.

He’s been released from custody and is due in court again in England in April.
