Wanted teen found with loaded handgun

Police arrested a wanted 17-year-old around 9 p.m. last night.

Staff Sgt. Lindsay Hernden told News 95.7 the Central Division Quick Response Unit were on patrol in the Uniacke and Breen Street area when the spotted a youth known to them.

“They were aware that this 17-year-old male was wanted by HRP in relation to a drug trafficking matter,” he said.

A brief foot chase took place before police were able to apprehend the youth.

“During the process, the young man reached into the front of his clothing and threw something to the ground,” said Hernden.

When police searched the area, they found out that object was a loaded handgun.

The youth will appear in court today for cocaine trafficking, breaching probation and numerous firearms-related charges.
