Police arrest two men for stealing car and breaking into man’s home

A 41-year-old and 27-year-old man are in police custody after an armed robbery and break and enter overnight.

At 8 o’clock Halifax Regional Police were called to a robbery in the McDonalds parking lot on Windmill Road in Dartmouth, where a 35-year-old man was threatened with a knife and had his car stolen. While police were investigating the robbery, they learned the home of the victim in Hammonds Plains had been broken into and several items were stolen.

Staff Sgt. Barb Saunders says they found the stolen car shortly after.

“We located the stolen vehicle in the area of Lakecrest Drive in Dartmouth,” explained Saunders. “At that time, the vehicle was stopped and the two men inside fled on foot. One party, a 41-year-old man, was taken into custody at that time, and we discovered some items from the break and enter and one party was found later.”

The younger of the two was found at 6:30 a.m. on Tacoma Drive in Dartmouth. The 41-year-old is facing charges of robbery, break and enter and assault police charge.

No one was injured and police do not think this was a random incident.
