Hundreds taking part in Vancouver May Day rally

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Unlike the violent riots in Seattle, Vancouver May Day ralliers are keeping the peace.

Hundreds of people came out to the Vancouver Art Gallery to gather for festivities, live music and chanting.
There were a few tense moments when masked protesters started filming police, who were filming them, though they managed to avoid confrontation.

The major problems the marchers caused was disrupting traffic in the downtown core. Several streets were blocks off as the large group of protestors made their way through the city.

There appeared to be more labour leaders than Occupy protesters.

May 1 is traditionally recognized as a day when the labour movement takes part in rallies and marches throughout the world.

In Seattle, May Day protests turned ugly, with black-clad protesters using sticks and bats to smash stores like Niketown and American Apparel and car windows.

According to KOMO News, the violence prompted Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn to issue an order grant police emergency powers to try to prevent further violence.
