Christmas Daddies raises thousands for Maritime kids

It’s been another successful year for the Christmas Daddies Telethon.

The 47th annual fundraiser brought in just over $710,000 this weekend to help out more than 15,000 children around the Maritimes.

Mainland Nova Scotia contributed about $376,000, Cape Bretoners kicked in $157,000 while New Brunswick came up with $123,000 for the telethon.

Prince Edward Islanders raised about $28,000.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the generosity our viewers have shown for their neighbours across the region,” said host Steve Murphy. “We are truly overwhelmed, although not surprised, by this outpouring of support.”

The money goes to provide toys, gifts and necessities such as clothing to children, with the funds being distributed by the Salvation Army.

Pledges can be honoured at any branch of the Royal Bank or at www.christmasdaddies.org online.
