Police arrest two after rash of robberies at north-end bar

Halifax Regional Police have two men in custody following a robbery spree at Menz Bar on Gottingen Street.

Staff Sgt. Brenda Zima tells News 95.7 it started Monday around midnight when two men got into a verbal dispute with a patron, followed him into the washroom and assaulted him.

She says they didn’t stop there.

“The two suspects then robbed two other men at knifepoint inside the bar before taking it out onto the street where they subsequently robbed three additional people before fleeing on foot,” she said.

Zima says officers were on scene within seconds and arrested two men on nearby Maitland Street. A 27-year-old Halifax man and a 32-year-old from Windsor will appear in court today facing several charges.

Police are also investigating a robbery on Windmill road. A woman waiting for the bus around 9:30 p.m. was approached by a man who asked for a cigarette. When she said no, he pulled out a handgun and stole her purse. She wasn’t hurt.
