LONDON – Founded in 1969, the Man Booker Prize was previously open to writers from Britain, Ireland and the Commonwealth, but was expanded in 2014 to include all English-language authors.
This year, Canadians Madeleine Thien and David Szalay were chosen as finalists, but Paul Beatty was named the winner for his novel “The Sellout Man.”
Previous Canadian winners include Margaret Atwood, Yann Martel and Michael Ondaatje.
