Theatre smash ‘War Horse’ to end celebrated Toronto run in January

TORONTO – The all-Canadian production of the theatre smash “War Horse” will dismount in January.
Mirvish Productions says the elaborate Toronto show will wrap Jan. 6, 2013. By then, it will have played 368 performances.
Mirvish says “War Horse” has already has set a Canadian record as the longest-running professional drama of all time.
Featuring life-sized puppets, “War Horse” tells the story of a young soldier, his beloved horse Joey and the obstacles they face during the First World War.
It began as a National Theatre of Great Britain production in 2007 and went on to wow Broadway with five Tony Awards and Toronto audiences with Canada’s Dora Mavor Moore Awards, where it snagged three prizes including audience choice.
A final block of tickets, ranging in price from $35 to $130, is on sale for shows starting Nov. 4.
“The Canadian cast and crew have brought the show to epic life in the beautiful Princess of Wales Theatre and I’m sure that audience records will continue to be broken in the show’s final 12 weeks in Toronto,” Chris Harper of the National Theatre of Great Britain said Tuesday in a release.
He said future productions are planned for Australia and Berlin, as well as a tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland.
