Woman arrested for impaired driving three times in three weeks

A Lower Sackville woman was arrested on Monday for impaired driving. According to Halifax RCMP it was her third impaired driving charge in three weeks.

In the most recent incident, police were called out Monday night around 8:30 p.m. when a resident reported that a vehicle was travelling in the wrong direction on Sackville Drive.

According to police the vehicle then continued onto Cobequid Road where it struck another vehicle head on. Police say the suspect continued driving the vehicle forcing another vehicle off the road.

RCMP Corp. Dal Hutchinson said the public played a role in helping officers to locate the vehicle in a nearby parking lot.

“When she was approached by the member in his vehicle she proceeded to drive towards the police car and fortunately enough the member was quick to react and avoid being struck by the vehicle,” said Hutchinson.

Hutchinson added that whenever someone gets behind a wheel while impaired they’re completely disregarding the safety of others.

The 54-year-old woman now faces the following charges:

  • Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Refusal to Provide Breath Sample
  • Failing to Stop at Scene of Accident
  • Flight from Police Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking

The female was released after appearing in Dartmouth Provincial court on Tuesday. She is scheduled to appear back in Court on May 17.
