Police clear Halifax Central Library after suspicious package call

HALIFAX -Halifax Regional Police have cleared the Halifax Central Library after a call reporting a suspicious package.

At 3:41 p.m. Thursday, police responded to the report at the library, located at 5440 Spring Garden Road.

The library was evacuated as a precaution, leaving many who were inside looking on from adjacent sidewalks while police searched the area.

Halifax Transit was forced to detour many of its bus routes around the scene as the situation took over Spring Garden Road and Queen Street.

Police asked people to avoid the area until further notice while the investigation continues.

The library remained closed Wednesday night, so police could continue their work in the area.

For those forced to evacuate, and who still have items in the building, the library is expected to release an update on how to access them.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police at: (902) 490-5020.
