Municipality launches public WiFi

HALIFAX — The Halifax Regional Municipality has launched a public WiFi service at the Dartmouth Waterfront and Grand Parade at City Hall today. Along with the WiFi the municipality has also launched a more accessible city website.

Residents are warned there may be connectivity interruptions as the project gets rolled out but the municipality has said they will continue to assess the service and work to improve it over the coming days and weeks.

In addition to today’s launch, work is underway to offer WiFi along the Halifax Waterfront which is expected to launch in the coming weeks in time for the Tall Ships Regatta at the end of July.

Three indoor locations will also be getting public WiFi later this summer; Alderney Gate Public Library, Halifax Central Library (including the Plaza) and Halifax North Memorial Public Library (including the Plaza.)

The Municipal Public WiFi initiative was approved by Regional Council in February and is a managed service, which means it is provided entirely by an external service provider and not municipal staff.
