Halifax Transit redecking service disruptions start tonight

Some changes to a number of Halifax Transit routes as preparations for the Macdonald Bridge redecking project begin today.

Buses that normally would take the old bridge are being rerouted starting at 6:30 p.m. to the end of the service day, Sunday through Thursday.

Halifax Transit’s scheduling and service planning supervisor Amy Power told News 95.7 a number of routes will be affected and a shuttle will be used to take passengers across the habour via the MacKay Bridge.

Power said as a result, commute times could be longer than normal.

“Probably about a 35 minute travel time,” said Power.  “We’ve estimated those times based on traffic conditions, if the traffic is not too bad in the evenings, you could find the travel quicker than the 35 minutes,” said Power.

Power said daytime buses will not be affected.

“The service during the day, during peak hours, there’s no impact to that,” said Power.

On March 2nd the Alderney ferry will increase weekday service between 6 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. to give passengers another option for travel between Halifax and Dartmouth.

The following routes will be impacted by the redecking project:

Route 1 Spring Garden
Route 10 Dalhousie
Route 14 Leiblin Park
Route 41 Dartmouth/Dalhousie
Route 52 Crosstown
Route 61 Auburn/North Preston
Route 159 Portland Hills MetroLink
Route 320 Fall River/Airport MetroX
