Four people injured as deck collapses in Westphal

HALIFAX – Four were taken to hospital with minor injuries after a deck collapsed underneath 15 people Sunday evening on Westmount Drive in Westphal.

Emergency crews responded around 6 p.m. to the home.

Halifax Fire Division Commander Corey Beals said the drop was about 10 feet, or one storey.

“A number of different types of lacerations and bruises from the collapse,” said Beals. “The deck itself was a wood-framed deck but it had a glass panel railing system.”

Beals said it was a scary situation for those involved.

“You could imagine, 15 people on a deck partying and having a good time and then all of a sudden your feet are gone from under you.”

Mounties say no charges will laid.
