People warned to watch for Liverpool N.S. shark with a hankering for mackerel

LIVERPOOL, N.S. – People in a small Nova Scotia community are being told to look before they leap into a harbour that being visited by a peckish shark.
Fisheries officials says people in Liverpool should watch out for a shark roughly 1.5 metres in length that has been spotted swimming around the harbour this week.
They say the shark has gone under a popular swimming bridge and into the estuary, grabbing mackerel right off their lines, along with their hooks.
Lyndon Mooers was fishing Tuesday night when he says he watched the shark in disbelief as it bit the mackerel off people’s hooks.
The sightings have prompted the department to put up warnings on the dock where people fish and swim.
Bill Wolfe of DFO says he has never heard of sharks coming that far up into the estuary or into the river, adding that it wasn’t clear what type of shark it might be.
