Disturbing letters found at site of Mississauga house explosion

Police are investigating handwritten notes found scattered among the debris where a Mississauga home exploded on Tuesday.

CityNews has obtained a few of the letters witnesses say were raining down on their properties. Neighbours have called the contents of the letters eyebrow-raising and said they read like pages of a diary, talking about financial troubles such as not being able to pay bills and asking God for forgiveness.

“It’s too early to speculate right now,” said police Chief Jennifer Evans when asked about the content of the notes. “There’s a lot of information coming in, but I’m encouraging people if they find anything suspicious in nature or if they recall seeing anything yesterday, to call us. We’re investigating all avenues right now.”

One person was killed in the blast and police will only say the body of a woman was found somewhere in the wreckage.

An “outside perimeter” around the blast zone was reduced on Wednesday, meaning some people were allowed back into their homes. Peel Region police said they didn’t know how many people were still out of their homes or how soon they would be allowed back in.

The home at the epicentre of the blast was levelled in the explosion, while two houses on either side of it partially caved in. Debris from the blast, including tufts of foam insulation, was scattered across the streets and on rooftops around the home.
