Trappenberg named new NS Green Party leader

The Green Party of Nova Scotia has announced Dr. Thomas Trappenberg will take on the role of interim leader, effective July 9th.
Trappenberg, a professor at Dalhousie University, has run as a candidate for the Green Party both federally and provincially.
On June 14th, former interim leader Brynn Nheiley announced that due to a lack of active engagement of the party’s members, along with no one coming forward to express interest in the leadership, they were no longer able to function.
Trappenberg told NEWS 95.7, he thinks that was a wake-up call for many Green Party supporters.
“It was nice to see people cared, a lot of people came forward and said, ‘This can’t happen,'” he said.
Trappenberg said a provincial election could happen at any time, and they’re aiming to run a full slate of candidates.
“Every Nova Scotian should have the possibility of voting for the Green Party.”
He added our electoral system can make it difficult to succeed in elections, saying many want to vote Green, but end up casting their ballots to vote against another party.
However, Trappenberg said they’re in talks with some candidates that he feels could have a shot of getting into the Legislature.
