Crosby flattered by street naming conversation

HALIFAX – Sidney Crosby has offered an opinion for the first time on the prospect that a street in his Nova Scotia hometown might be renamed in his honour.

The 28-year-old Pittsburgh Penguins captain called it a compliment, even while saying he’s not sure it’s something that “necessarily needs to be done.”

He told reporters after the NHL Awards in Las Vegas last night that it does mean a lot to him that people in Cole Harbour might want to honour him that way.

After the Penguins won their second Stanley Cup this month, Halifax regional council voted unanimously to ask staff to prepare a report on the idea, with a vote possibly to follow next month.

Crosby said he often thinks about Cole Harbour and his friends there, calling it a special place to him.

Crosby also hinted he will take the Stanley Cup back with him to Nova Scotia for a few days, and try to reach as people as he can with it.
