Hurricanes win in the final seconds, now one win away from NBL Championship

HALIFAX – The Halifax Hurricanes are just one win away from their first National Basketball League of Canada Championship after they eked out a win on the road on Wednesday night.

The Hurricanes dropped the London Lightning 99-98 in Game 4 of their seven-game series Wednesday taking a 3-1 series lead, but it didn’t come without some serious nerves.

The Hurricanes led by three at halftime, 47-44, but the Lightning fought back to tie it and actually led by a single point with 2.2 seconds remaining in regulation.

Halifax’s Mike Glover was able to make it to the free throw line after being fouled in the final seconds and made two free throws with 2.2 seconds left to give the Hurricanes the big win.

Shane Gibson led the Hurricanes with 20 points while the game’s hero Glover finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds.

The Hurricanes will play Game 5 at Budweiser Gardens in London on Friday, which will mark their first chance to finish the series.

If necessary, games 6 and 7 of the series are scheduled to be back in Halifax, with game 6 scheduled for Sunday, while a game 7 date and time have not been determined.
