Police looking for thieves who robbed two ATMs

HALIFAX – Halifax Regional Police have seized two pick-up trucks but are still looking for suspects in a pair of bank machine robberies in downtown Halifax on Sunday morning.

Around 5:09 a.m. Sunday, someone reported that two men were trying to break-in to an ATM at the Spring Garden Place Mall on Spring Garden Road, and when officers arrived, they found an empty bank machine that had been damaged.

Police were told the suspects had fled in a white pick-up truck and seized a truck matching that description on Queen Street around 3 p.m. Sunday. The suspects are described as white males, with one believed to be heavy set.

Around 5:20 a.m. Sunday, police said they received a second call from a security guard at the Maritime Centre on Barrington Street, who reported a loud noise from the basement of the building.

The guard told police he saw two men, one of them carrying what looked to be a crowbar, who eventually left in an older model dark-coloured pick-up truck. Police again found an empty and damaged bank machine when they arrived.

No suspect description was available for the second incident, but police said a truck believed to be involved was seized around 8:10 a.m. Monday on Morris Street.

Police believe the two thefts are related and anyone with information is asked to call Regional Police at 902-490-5020 or Crime Stoppers.
