Teachers’ union to hold run-off election next week for new leader

The field of candidates for a new president of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union has been narrowed from six to two.

The union says 62 per cent of their 10,300 members cast a vote for their new leader yesterday, but none of the candidates picked up the required majority of votes to secure the title.

However, Damian Hall, Shawn Hanifen, Cyril MacGillivray and Paul Wozney have been dropped from the slate.

When a run-off election is held on June 2nd, Liette Doucet and Wally Fiander will be on the ballot.

The winner’s two-year term starts on August 1st.
