Trade Centre LTD. CEO Ferguson Resigns

HALIFAX – The President and CEO of Trade Centre Limited announced Tuesday he will be stepping down and leaving for a new role in New York City later next month.

Scott Ferguson says he’s very excited about his new opportunity, and is confident Trade Centre Limited will continue to thrive once he officially resigns.

Ferguson will be leaving his post as CEO to take over in another CEO capacity for the World Trade Centers Association in New York in June

“While we are disappointed to see Scott go, we have been very fortunate to have such a strong leader with a clear vision,” said Justin McDonough, chair, TCL Board of Directors. “Scott had a deliberate strategy for growth, and under his guidance we have solidified a strong future for the new convention centre and the event industry in Nova Scotia.”

Carrie Cussons, currently Trade Centre Limited’s Chief Financial Officer, has been appointed acting President and CEO.

In an interview with NEWS 95.7 Tuesday, Ferguson said Cussons is more than qualified in assuming his role on the interim once he departs next month.

“Carrie a great passion, attention to detail and knowledge of our business. She’s led all of our initiatives with out stakeholders on getting this new building prepared,” Ferguson said Tuesday, in reference to the opening next year of the new Halifax Trade and Convention Centre.

“It is important to maintain experienced leadership and continuity during this time in the organization’s evolution,” said McDonough. “We have every confidence in Carrie, the management team, and their ability to ensure a successful transition to the new Halifax Convention Centre.”

Ferguson joined TCL in 1985 taking on increasingly senior roles before becoming president and CEO in 2009. Under his leadership, TCL has undergone significant growth and transformation, including the renovations of the newly named Scotiabank Centre under a multi-year $7.5 million partnership.

He also oversaw reaching the sales targets for the new Halifax Convention Centre, international recognition for the marketing of the new centre and the operational preparations currently under way to open the facility.

Ferguson says he will officially resign during the third week of June, but no firm date is set.

He adds the the new board of directors of the Halifax Convention Centre Corporation will decide on a permanent CEO for the organization in the near future.
