Charges laid in clearcut at Long Lake Provincial Park

Three companies have been charged after in investigation into the tree cutting at Long Lake Provincial Park.

Nova Scotia’s Department of Environment says Dexter Construction Company Ltd., Resourcetec Inc. and Scott and Stewart Forestry Consultants Ltd. have been charged with violating the Crown Lands Act.

The cutting in November involved about 3.8 hectares of the 2,095 hectares of natural landscape.

The department says penalties can include fines, land remediation and the recovery of double the market value for any wood cut.

Summons were served and charges were sworn in court on Friday, May 13.
