HALIFAX- The final hurdle for the 2016 Yarmouth to Maine ferry service has been cleared as the City of Portland has approved a lease agreement with Bay Ferries to use their terminal space.
The approval, which came during Tuesday night’s regular council meeting in Portland, M.E., is on a two-year term, with the City holding a renewal option in the third year of the agreement.
For the $150,000 paid to the City of Portland, the deal allows Bay Ferries’ access to the docks for its Cat Ferry in Portland from 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. each day from June 15 to Sept. 30.
The lease also stipulates while passenger and bus traffic will be allowed use of the docks, there will be no transport trucks permitted.
The full lease agreement can be found here.
The ferry service is expected to make its first run on June 15, with the provincial government kicking in $23 million in funding to get the route up and running this year.
