Officers injured during extensive police chase through Halifax

Two men have been arrested and two officers received minor injuries after a bizarre chain of events early this morning.

At around 4:20 a.m., Halifax Regional Police were called to the Halifax Waterfront after getting a report that a white SUV was driving around and damaging property near the Wave.

They were able to track down the vehicle near Gottingen and Buddy Daye streets, but police say SUV took off heading the wrong way down Creighton Street, then Charles and Maynard.

They caught back up with the vehicle near Bayers Road and Micmac Street, but when they approached the SUV, police say it sped towards the officers, and tried to hit them.

The vehicle then took off for Highway 102, at one point, police say the vehicle was heading north in the southbound lanes without its lights on, and the driver tried to hit a cruiser.

It eventually stopped near the Hammonds Plains exit, police say the 30-year-old driver hopped out and ran off before they caught up and arrested him.

They also took a 28-year-old passenger into custody.

One officer and the driver were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The gentleman who had to go to the hospital, our officer, has since been released,” Cst. Dianne Woodworth told The Rick Howe Show. “We’re thankful for that.”

A second officer was treated and released by EHS at the scene.

Police say they are still investigating the incident and will decide what charges they will be laying later today.
