RCMP rescue dog from partially frozen pond

RCMP rushed a dog to Dartmouth’s Metro Animal Emergency Clinic after finding her in a partially frozen pond.

Just after midnight Wednesday morning the got a report of a distressed dog on Highway 7 in Lake Echo.

Officers heard loud whimpering from a nearby wooded area.

When they found her, she wouldn’t move and police weren’t sure if the dog was injured or stuck in the ice and snow.

One officer went into the pond to rescue the animal, using their patrol jacket as a blanket.

Vets believe the around 10-year-old Sheltie mix had been on her own for a while.

She hasn’t been microchipped and has been brought to the Homeward Bound City Pound while investigators try to find her owner.

The dog is in stable condition and is eating, and police are reminding pet owners to keep animals indoors overnight in the winter.
