Feasibility study on new toll roads in Nova Scotia coming this spring

HALIFAX – Nova Scotia’s Transportation Minister says a feasibility study on new toll roads should be ready for the public this coming spring.

Geoff MacLellan said the public opinion polls he has seen suggest the public wants to see the details of the government’s plan before making a decision.

“It’s almost split, again that’s based on the polls that are out there,” MacLellan said. “But my own feeling personally based on contact I’ve recieved, people are okay to see what the plan looks like. They’re not fundamentally ruling it out but they want to see the numbers.”

The tolls would be used to help pay for the twinning of up to eight sections of 100-series highways in the province.

The Liberal government has pledged to hold 16 rounds of public hearings on the matter.
