HRP and RCMP investigating after bank robbery, attempted robbery in broad daylight

HALIFAX – Regional Police and Halifax RCMP are investigating after a robbery and an attempted robbery at local banks in broad daylight on Wednesday.

Regional police said a man went into a branch of the East Coast Credit Union on Kearney Lake Road just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, where he allegedly told staff he had a weapon and demanded money, despite being told there was no cash on site.

The man jumped the counter and rifled through drawers before he eventually left the branch empty handed and on foot, according to police, heading towards Parkland Drive.The suspect could not be located by police and a K9 unit.

No one was hurt in the incident and no weapon was seen.

The suspect is described as a white middle-aged man with a beard, who was wearing a dark toque, black gloves, work boots and a green or grey hoodie that was tucked into tan overalls.

RCMP are also investigating a Scotiabank robbery that happened just before noon on Wednesday afternoon in Sackville.

Investigators said a lone man entered the bank on Sackville Drive and demanded money before he fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

RCMP said officers combed the area but were not able to locate the suspect, and again, no one was hurt.

The suspect is described as a middle aged man, wearing a dark-coloured toque, beige overalls with a hoodie and gloves.
