Mooseheads trade Moynihan, acquire 1st Round Pick

HALIFAX – The Halifax Mooseheads made a trade with the Shawinigan Cataractes on Tuesday, acquiring Shawinigan’s first round pick in 2016 along with 20-year-old defenceman Zachary Taylor in exchange for 20-year-old forward Danny Moynihan and Quebec’s third round pick in 2016.

Moynihan told NEWS 95.7 he expected a trade and is looking forward to the move, but he enjoyed his time playing in Halifax and will miss playing on the same team as his brother Connor.

“I think he’s a little bit upset, we like playing with each other, I’m going to miss him being one of my teammates,” he said. “But you know, that’s hockey, he’s happy for me and I think he’ll be fine without me.”

On the upside, the Boston, Massachusetts-native said Shawinigan will be a closer drive for his parents when they come out to see him play.

Moynihan is not the only former Moosehead on the Cataractes roster, Cavan Fitzgerald was traded to Shawinigan last month and the pair are excited to be teammates again.

He was playing in his third full season in Halifax and was leading scorer with 50 points in 38 games in 2015-2016 and originally signed with the team as a free agent in 2013.

Zachary Taylor is a native of Dartmouth, NS and had spent his entire career with the Cataractes, amassing 25 points in 167 games. He has maintained a +11 rating this season.
