Blue Jays runaway winners of The Canadian Press team of the year award

TORONTO – The Blue Jays finally ended a long playoff drought in Toronto this year and helped put baseball back on the map in the city and around the country.

With league MVP Josh Donaldson and trade-deadline pickup David Price leading the way, Toronto won the East Division title and made its first post-season appearance in 22 years.

The captivating regular season and ensuing playoff run made the Blue Jays a landslide winner of The Canadian Press team of the year award.
Toronto defeated the Texas Rangers in the first-round divisional series — capped by a memorable Jose Bautista home run bat flip in the deciding game — before falling to the Kansas City Royals in the American League Championship Series.

The Blue Jays picked up 71 per cent of the vote in an online survey of broadcasters and editors from media outlets across the country.
The Canadian world junior hockey team that won gold last January was a distant second.
