Mooseheads double up Islanders

The Halifax Mooseheads defeated the Charlottetown Islanders in a close game on Sunday afternoon with a final score of 4-2.

Halifax’s Timo Meier opened up the scoring early in the first period. The Islanders responded with two goals over the first and second periods to make it 2-1 after the second. Mooseheads forward Danny Moynihan tied the game midway through the period on a powerplay to make it 2-2.

Maxime Fortier scored the game-winning goal with less than four minutes remaining in the third, assisted by Cody Donaghety and Timo Meier. Danny Moynihan extended their lead to 4-2 with an empty net goal at 18:59.

Moynihan, Meier and Fortier had eleven points between them.

The Mooseheads were outshot 38-25.

They’re now sitting at 11-14-3-1 on the season, 15th in the overall standings and 5th in the division.

The Herd will head home for a week off before hosting the Rouyn Noranda Huskies on Friday night at Scotiabank Centre.
