Bridgewater Police confirm identity of body found Monday

BRIDGEWATER, N.S. – Bridgewater Police have released the identification of a 58-year old woman who was found dead in a wooded area Monday afternoon.

Police confirmed late Tuesday the body found is that of missing Catherine Burgoyne who was first reported missing last week.

Police are now awaiting autopsy results to determine a cause of death which was scheduled for Tuesday.

They say there are still many unanswered questions in their investigation.

Burgoyne was last seen on Thursday, October 29th, and police would like to speak with anyone who may have any information on her whereabouts before her death.

A Bridgewater police officer working on her missing persons case discovered the body around 1 p.m. Monday in a wooded-area near North King Street.

Investigators cordoned off a border surrounding the area of North King Street, Starr Street and Victoria Road after the body was found, and RCMP Forensic Specialists and staff from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office were called to the scene.

The body was removed several hours later while officers remained on the scene overnight before completing their on scene investigation Tuesday.
