Leafs training camp raises $13,800 for KidSport Nova Scotia

At least 46 kids in Nova Scotia will now have the chance to get involved in minor hockey thanks to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

When the organization announced they’d be bringing their training camp to Bedford’s BMO Centre, they chose to donate all of the proceeds from the $5 ticket sales, along with money raised at a community BBQ Sunday, to KidSport Nova Scotia, a program of Sport Nova Scotia.

That organization’s director of marketing and events Jeff LeDrew told NEWS 95.7 $13,803 was raised over the weekend.

“We give out up to $300 for equipment or registration, so we’re extremely excited to have that amount from the Leafs,” said LeDrew.

He said KidSport Nova Scotia helps children get involved in all kinds of different sports, but LeDrew said this money will be earmarked for minor hockey.

“When they made the decision to host the training camp in Halifax, they reached out to us directly, so we were pretty excited to get the call,” he said.

For hours, excited fans lined up on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for their chance to see the Leafs hit the ice.

This is the first time the team has held part of their camp outside of Ontario since 2001.

Maple Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello told NEWS 95.7 the hospitality and fan support they received from Nova Scotians was fantastic.
