Gas up nearly six cents for the long weekend

HALIFAX – After dealing with a gas shortage in Nova Scotia last weekend, drivers will be seeing a big jump in prices at the pumps for this one.

The provincial regulator used its weekly adjustment to raise the price of regular self-serve by 5.7 cents per litre, to a new minimum price of $1.04.4/L

The price increase means a 50 litre fill-up will cost you $2.85 more on Friday than it did Thursday.

The regulator implemented a smaller increase in the price of diesel for the second time this week, after using the interrupter clause on Wednesday to raise prices 6.5 cents per litre.

Friday’s increase was only 1.3 cents, bringing the new minimum price for diesel to 98.4 c/L.

At this time last year, Nova Scotians were paying $1.34/L for gasoline, $1.30/L for diesel, and oil was trading at $94.69 (US) per barrel.

That’s over $48 more than Thursday’s closing price of $46.16.
