Fuel trucks head across N.S., still a few days before supply is normal

HALIFAX – Trucks of fuel continue to make their way throughout the province as Nova Scotia remains in the grips of a gas shortage for at least another couple of days.

The latest shipment arrived at the Imperial Oil facility in Dartmouth on Monday, but some drivers are still facing stations without gas as of early Tuesday morning.

Dave Collins, vice president of Wilson Fuels, said drivers can still expect a few days before the gas supply normalizes, meaning you still could see some stations without gas despite the new shipments.

Collins said the shortage shows the fall out of Nova Scotia no longer having its own oil refinery.

“A refinery by its very nature has much larger inventories, products, crude, so they can adjust on the fly,” Collins said.

“There was a lot more inventory in the system when you have a refinery, when you run a terminal, you don’t run with that much inventory.”

Collins also told Global News, he fears this could happen again and he just hopes it’s not during the winter.

“To have heating oil run out like this, it would be truly devastating.”

Two late marine shipments were a major factor in the shortage, which were reportedly turned away by federal regulators last week.
