Mulcair campaiging in Halifax, only major party leader on trail today

OTTAWA – NDP leader Tom Mulcair is making a foray into Atlantic Canada today in hopes of shaking loose some votes in the region’s largest urban area.

Mulcair is attending a rally at the World Trade Convention Centre
in Halifax, a city where the New Democrats have been competitive since former federal and Nova Scotia NDP leader Alexa MacDonough made a breakthrough in Atlantic Canada in the 1997 federal election.

Some recent polls have suggested the Liberals are leading in the Atlantic provinces.

Mulcair is the only major party leader on the campaign trail today — Stephen Harper and Justin Trudeau have no public events.

Green Party leader Elizabeth May is in British Columbia campaigning in her home riding of Saanich Gulf Islands.
