Five to be invested into the Order of Nova Scotia

HALIFAX – Nova Scotia’s lieutenant governor says five community leaders will be invested into the Order of Nova Scotia this fall, including the late Alistair MacLeod.
The acclaimed Cape Breton author, who died in 2014, is recognized as one of the province’s finest literary voices.
Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant says the investiture ceremony will take place on Sept. 30 at the provincial legislature.
The other four recipients include Dr. Margaret Macdonald Casey, who was among a small group of health professionals who recognized the urgent need of accessible health care in the north end of Halifax.
The others named to the order are:
– Louis E. Deveau of Dartmouth, who founded Acadian Seaplants Limited, a biotech manufacturing company that employs 350 people in eight countries.
– Entrepreneur and environmentalist Martin (Rudy) Haase of Chester. He was the first landowner to donate a conservation easement to the Nova Scotia Nature Trust, protecting a tract of land on the Bras d’Or Lakes in 1996.
– Sharon Hope Irwin of Sydney. She has devoted 40 years to ensuring that child care is inclusive, affordable and accessible. The Town Daycare Centre in Glace Bay integrates children with visual impairments, bone disease and those with cerebral palsy.
