Halifax man charged in vicious assault

HALIFAX – A Halifax man will be in court on Wednesday after allegedly viciously assaulting another man in a fight on Tuesday night.

Halifax Regional Police said they responded to an assault call on Gottingen Street at Cornwallis Street just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday night when they found two men had been fighting.

One the men had allegedly been knocked to the ground when the suspect jumped on his head several times before fleeing the area.

The 34-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, while the suspect was arrested a short time later.

The 29-year-old is charged with assault causing bodily harm and aggravated assault.
