Report: Blue Jays acquire Tulowitzki from Rockies

TORONTO – It appears the Toronto Blue Jays have pulled off a blockbuster trade.
According to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports, the club is set to acquire shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and veteran reliever LaTroy Hawkins from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for shortstop Jose Reyes, relief pitcher Miguel Castro and two additional minor-leaguers.
One of the minor-leaguers heading to Colorado is expected to be highly-rated pitching prospect Jeff Hoffman, Toronto’s first-round pick in 2014.
Tulowitzki, 30, is batting .305/.353/.478 with 12 home runs and 52 RBI in 346 plate appearances this season. The five-time all-star infielder is under club control until at least the 2020 season. He has a $15 million club option for the 2021 season.
The career .299/.372/.514 hitter has spent his entire nine-year career with Colorado after he was selected by the Rockies in the first round (No. 7 overall) of the 2005 MLB Draft.
Castro, who opened the 2015 campaign on the Blue Jays roster, registering a 4.38 ERA with 12 strikeouts, six walks, and two home runs allowed in 12.1 innings in a late-inning role before he was sent down to triple-A Buffalo in early May.
Hawkins, 42, opened the year as the Rockies’ closer before he was removed from the role. The veteran right-hander has a 3.53 ERA with 20 strikeouts, four walks, and three home runs allowed in 22.1 innings pitched in 2015.
Reyes, 32, is scheduled to earn $22 million per year until the end of the 2018 season. He is hitting .285/.322/.385 with 36 runs, 17 doubles, four home runs, 34 RBI, and 16 steals in 311 plate appearances.
Reyes confirmed he is being traded early Tuesday morning to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.
