HALIFAX – It’s been a question since the early days of recycling, “Where does this go?”
Technology to the rescue.
Halifax Regional Municipality is releasing a new app that allows users to enter their garbage item into a search box and find out where to put it.
HRM spokesperson Tiffany Chase said the app does more than just sort your trash.
“You can look up your own collection schedule as well, to determine if its green cart week, garbage week, if there’s any special collection dates that you should know,” Chase said.
“This upcoming weekend of course, we have the Naval Day holiday on Monday, so the alternate collection day will be Saturday, and you can sign up for notifications to let you know when it will be your collection day the night before.”
You can download the free Halifax Recycles App from the Apple Store or Google Play Store, and there is also a web-based version available on the city’s website.
New garbage rules, including the introduction of clear bags, come into effect August 1.
