RCMP continue search for car involved in Highway 101 crash that stopped for ducks

Kings District RCMP continue their searching for a black car that fled the scene of a crash on Highway 101 Thursday morning, after it stopped to let ducks cross the highway and was rear-ended by a motorcycle.
Emergency crews responded to a 911 call around 9:45 a.m., after a man riding a motorcycle westbound on the highway slammed in to the back of a car that had stopped for another black vehicle, that had stopped to allow a family of ducks to cross the road.
EHS Lifeflight airlifted the man in his 60’s to hospital with serious injuries.
Police say the driver of the car that initially stopped was not hurt but fled the scene, and they are searching for a black car. They say they have limited eyewitness descriptions of the vehicle.
Constable Kelli Goodie with Kings District RCMP tells News 95.7 it’s important drivers are aware of their surroundings on the highway.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, given the scenario of animals on the highway, motorists should do their best to avoid injury to the animals if possible,” Goodie said.
“Before making a decision, carefully consider the safety of other road users; if there’s a scenario where heavy traffic is present, the risk to yourself or other road users might be quite high if braking or taking evasive action.”
RCMP, EHS, Wolfville, Hantsport and Greenwich Fire Departments all attended the scene.
Highway 101 has re-opened to traffic between Grand Pre and Wolfville after being closed for nearly five hours.
