Transport Minister visits Maine to discuss ferry

By

Nova Scotia Transportation Minister and Natural Resources Minister are in Maine Thursday to gauge the state’s committment to the Yarmouth to Portland ferry service.

Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan is scheduled to meet with Maine Governor Paul LePage and Portland Mayor Michael Brennan, and he’s hoping to get an indication of what the state is willing to provide financially and otherwise.

Nova Scotia has already poured $13 million into the ferry to keep it afloat this season, on top of the $28.5 million to subsidize last season.

MacLellan said a decision will be made by July or August on whether Nova Star Cruises will continue to operate the service in 2016.
